While scouting for possible camping spots we entered Tooth Bay. I said to Justine, "This would make a good camping spot because it doesn't look like good bear habitat. As soon as I said that I had to eat my words. "Look, there's a bear!" He didin't seem afraid of us at all. There were no trees in the bay but the bushes were higher than they appeared. Here he crosses a patch of ice. His pelt was jet black. It must really snow alot here to have snow in August. I climbed a large rock to photograph these puffins. They were very cooperative. Their web feat didn't cling to the cliffs too well. Eagles were plentiful too. Jon had to take Dan back to Seward so Justine and I moved our campsite to Verdant Cove. You can see our tent in this photo. All the good camping spots had large metal boxes for caching food. It's a good thing because of bears are plentiful. One day we returned to camp to see a black bear in this bay only 50 yards from our tent. |
