The restart was held at Willow Lake due to lack of snow in Wasilla. I climbed on a tall snowbank to get this view of the mushers preparing for the race. Doug Swingley of Lincoln, Montana, four time champion has come out of retirement. I'm glad to see him back in the race as he is fun to photograph. Only Rick Swenson has won the Iditarod more times. One of Alaska's favorite mushers Martin Buser, especially with the children. He's tied with Doug with four wins. It takes allot of volunteers and sponsors to help get the dogs ready. "Don't leave me!" Mitch Seavy of Sterling gives a high five to an Iditarod volunteer he knows. He won this year's Iditarod in 9 days 12 hours and 20 minutes. |
