Lake Creek, July 11-18, 2004
The sandstone in the canyon is quite spectacular. It reminded me of Arizona. We found petrified wood in the bottom layers.
Tom landing a nice fish.
Because of the rain-free weather we were able to have camp fires each night. After a night of bear-free camping we spotted this small Black Bear headed to our campsite as we launched our raft. Good timing! Oh Shit!
This was the largest rapid. A class IV five miles above Yenlow Creek. There appeared to be only one way down it so we didn't even pull over, we just went for it. Fortunately we managed well. The photo does not do it justice, trust me. It was a handful. My biggest fear was wrapping my raft on a large bolder so I had to row quickly to avoid them. A portage or lining of the raft would have been difficult but possible I think. Yenlow creek had a nice school of Kings just below the mouth. You could almost catch them with your hands I think.
