Iditarod 2001 © Neil Moomey, All Rights Reserved. All photographs were taken March 3-5, 2001 on Alaska's Iditarod trail. There are 5 pages totaling 23 images. These images are dedicated to the athletes and volunteers of the Last Great Race. This year the first day of the Iditarod stopped at the West end of Campbell Airstrip due to lack of snow. I used a slow shutter speed to give a musher Vern Halter a blur effect. Linwood Fiedler works his brake as he navigates a sharp bend. Linwood came in 2nd place this year, his best finish to date! Martin Buser #4 on the Susitna River. It was a beautiful second day. Note Denali in the background. Martin Buser lives in Big Lake and won the Iditarod in 92, 94, and 97. There were several large crowds of spectators this year on the trail. Everyone is having a good time. Here you can see three dog teams and several snowmobiles (or snowmachines as Alaskans call them.)
