I was impressed with the beauty of the Skwentna to Finger Lake stretch of the trail.  Everywhere I looked I was surrounded by mountains.  I hope to return here again.

The second night it got bitterly cold.  My toothpaste, sunblock, and bottles of juice froze solid.  Putting gear in coolers helped some.  I estimated it was at least minus 20° F that night.  I left my propane heater on all night and I could still see my breath inside the tent the next morning.  The heater could not warm my tent above freezing but I slept very well.  I doubt I would have got any sleep at all without my Coleman catalectic heater.  Here are some more star trails.  The northern lights came out around 1AM.  My attempts to photograph them failed because they moved too quickly and were not bright enough so I simply enjoyed them for 30 minutes and went back to bed.

The next day I was delighted when my snowmachine started inspite of the cold.  The 85 mile trip home took me about 5.5 hours and I encountered no dog mushers.  What a great trip this was.  I'm already making plans to return.

The End
