We launched our boat in the Pasagshak river at near high tide. There is no formal boat launch and I didn't see any other boats lauched here but it seemed to work just fine with our small boat. It takes about a 6ft tide to get out I think. Coming in requires a major tide, 7 feet or more I'm guessing for a boat this size. If you're not experienced with launching in tidal rivers I would not recommend this method. There was a curling wave coming in at the mouth during certain stages of the tide so it's best to wait for the proper timing and weather. Ugak bay is incredibly beautiful. I could have spent my whole vacation here. Don't be fooled by the calm water you see here. The mouth of the bay near Pasagshak is open to the Gulf and we could have been easily stuck for days with an East or South Wind. Our destination was Saltery Creek. It's a semi-remote river with excellent fishing. If you have a good 4WD with off road gear or 4-Wheeler you can make it. It's very popular with the locals. We were the only boaters camping here so this must not be a popular method. Even the locals were suprised we boated from the road but it was a piece of cake for the mighty "Inner Tube." Here's our campsite at low tide. Amazing scenery. This was my favorite part of the trip. The Lupine flowers were everywhere. A photographer's paradise. |
