Lake Creek, July 11-18, 2004
Here I hold a nice 22" rainbow. What I liked best about Lake Creek was you could fish it well with traditional fly fishing techniques and flies. No slinky and beads required. Spruce trees mixed with birch dominate the upper forest. The water starts out easy. Soon after we got into some Kings. They were a handful with a 9wt fly rod. It was so hot out I waded wet in my sandals or wading shoes most of the week.
Nothing tastes better than fresh King Salmon cooked over a wood fire. A few Sockeye were in the river but not many. The Arctic Grayling, large and plentiful. I love their colors. I burned my fingers palming my reel on several occasions. I fought a 60-70lb King on my 9wt for 30 minutes before it broke my line. It really put on a show jumping a dozen times. Next time I'll bring a bigger rod and reel especially.
