Northwestern Fjord Sea Kayak
Trip
Sunday I opted to paddle solo to Long Beach at the head of Harris Bay. I was rewarded by this amazing beach. The storms had pushed fine gravel onto the trees. I suspect the 1964 earthquake lowered this land into beachfront. A beautiful grass meadow with several small ponds and lagoons. One of the prettiest beaches I have ever seen. I was suprised to find two people hiking the beach at the far end. The weather was calm enough to land a kayak but it would be very easy to get stranded here for days. For that reason I would not recommend camping here. Another reason not to camp here. The bear tracks were very plentiful. This one paid no attention to me and slowly walked down the beach away from me thank goodness. I found several River Otters playing in the bays and shedding their fur on the rocky islands. And yet another trip of a lifetime! I'll be back for sure. The End
