Chilikadrotna River Float

We caught a few rainbows but not many.  They were what I call leopards because of their bright spots.  We did well with egg patterns.

Dad lands another.

We found a nice caribou antler and put it on our raft for a few days.  My father and I took turns rowing.

We camped on gravel bars as much as possible.  Tarps really come in handy on trips like these.  Campfires are also an important part of the trip.  I like to string them up from the corners.

The temperature never got above 55 degrees or so.  One morning we woke to a half inch of snow.  Good thing I had my fleece liner for my sleeping bag.  This night we heard footsteps in the gravel.  The next day we saw grizzly tracks in the snow.  He walked between our tent and food cache and never touched a thing.  We felt very lucky.

The snow quickly melted.  Here you can see the river and forest changing.  The trees are larger and the river is getting more narrow and swift.  The fishing also slowed down somewhat.
