Mt Susitna makes a great backdrop for the Yentna River. These two dogs are taking a brief nap at Yentna Station. It's amazing they can sleep at all with so many other unfamiliar dogs nearby. This would be Chuck and Ken's first winter snowmachine camping experience in Alaska. Winter camping requires the proper equipment to keep warm. The sky was clear all weekend so I was able to take some star trail time elapsed photographs. The horizontal streak behind the tent is a musher's headlamp as it goes by our tent. I hung a lantern in the tent to give it a glow-like effect.
The streaks are caused from the earth's rotation. The stars appear to rotate around the North Star. This photograph was about 20 minutes long if I remember. |
