The best thing about camping is the crowds go away each evening and morning. What a beautiful stream this is. I decided to name a fly I invented after this stream. It's called the Saltery Creek Special. It's similar to a wolly bugger with peacock herl instead of chenile and bead chain eyes. It worked great for Dollies and Reds. I waded across the tidewater slough to the beach. The sand reminded me of someplace other than Alaska. Commercial Fishing boats were working the bay non-stop day and night with Purse Seiners. It was interesting watching them work. They would form a C shape with their nets and the salmon swimming along the coast would swim straight in. Finally they would draw the net in like a purse and pull the nets on board. I don't think those guys ever sleep. They were so busy they never even looked my way when we boated past them. A Bald Eagle landed just long enough for a quick photo framed with Lupine. |
